Jon’s experience is entirely in the maritime regulatory and enforcement field. He has successfully led others in the United States Coast Guard and served as Assistant Deputy Chief of the United States Public Health, Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP). He is convinced that the protection of cruise line public health remains with international standard-setting and systems capability.
Jon has successfully led others in the United States Coast Guard and served as Assistant Deputy Chief of the United States Public Health, Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) being the officer-in-charge of the VSP Ft. Lauderdale office. There he managed a portfolio of cruise ship inspections and construction reviews for the cruise industry, globally. Except for one year as the Director, Public Health for Norwegian Cruise Lines, Jon has spent the past 14 years providing public health consulting for the cruise industry. The last 10 have been with Global Public Health Services.
Jon is highly regarded in the cruise sector. He has assisted cruise companies globally in creating and realizing public health priorities by combining the mechanics of distribution systems, the protocols of food safety, and the realities of running profitable operations. As an experienced public health specialist, he advises,teaches, and consults on several international public health initiatives including EU’s SHIPSAN Project and Canada’s Health Canada. Jon served as a public health expert for the Olympic Games hosted both in Greece and Australia.
Jon first started implementing sound public health and sustainable operating practices while working with the United States Coast Guard. He has earned the coveted The Edward (Ted) Moran Award for outstanding environmental health practice. This award issued by the Environmental Health Officers Professional Advisory Committee recognizes individuals’ consistent achievements and high standards in the practice of environmental health, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene / radiological health. Since then, he continues his work in making environmental action pay off by implementing best practices.He has a special interest in aligning organizational procedures in a way that supports team effectiveness. In these areas he brings a keen sense of individual and group processes as well as a determined focus on quality and performance results.
Jon is President of JPSchnoorConsulting, Inc. and concurrently a Managing Partner at Global Public HealthService, LLC.
